Our exciting new school website has recently gone ‘live.’ It is packed with up to date information and photographs to help keep our parents informed of the many events that take place in our school. It also includes important policy documents which should be viewed by parents. 1916 ASSEMBLY

In October we were paid a special visit by 2 members of the Irish Army in preparation for the 100 year Anniversary of 1916.
Sergeant Riccardo Lucchesi and Sergeant Alan McEvoy presented our school with the National Flag and a copy of the 1916 Proclamation. Further events will take place next year to mark this special occasion. GREEN FLAG

The Green Flag Committee and the Energy Squad have been working tirelessly all year to reduce litter, waste and energy usage. We even replaced the old heating system with a more energy efficient system over the Summer and the attic was also re-insulated. We are currently preparing for a renewal visit in the new year. Hopefully everything will go well and we can apply for our new Green flag in 2016. In the meantime please check out our 'Green Schools' page on our new school website.

A massive thank-you to all those who donated prizes and helped out at the traditional Friary Boys’ Wheel of Fortune on Friday 4th December. Everyone who attended enjoyed an entertaining night and helped raise a significant amount for school funds. CHRISTMAS DRAW
The winners of our Christmas Draw were:
1st prize (Hamper) - Olive Houston. 2nd prize (€50) - Christopher Dunne.
3rd prize (€25) - Hazel McArdle.
Many thanks to all those who supported this fundraiser. CHRISTMAS ASSEMBLY

A Christmas assembly was held in the hall where all classes sang Christmas carols and performed festive poems. Treats and prizes were also given in appreciation to all the boys who made a special effort to sell lines for our Christmas raffle.

In November, the West Midlands Theatre Company once again visited our school. The boys were treated to a professional theatre production of the play, ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ This was an interactive performance and many boys got the chance to go on stage and be part of the show! RECYCLED CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

Well done to all boys who entered our ‘Recycled Christmas Tree Decoration’ competition. The standard was extremely high with some outstanding original ideas. MUSEUM VISIT

Members of the victorious

The Litter warden visited our 3rd and 4th classes to talk about his job. He discussed with the boys the importance of keeping our school and town tidy and explained to them what to do if they see someone littering!

In October we celebrated Maths
week where our primary focus was on practical and fun Maths activities.
We followed this up in November with Science week, where all classes participated in a variety of practical experiments, while 6th class got to view a science demonstration in DKIT. Many boys participated in our Crazy Hat competition where they made their own science hat and displayed these at a special prizegiving assembly in the hall.

All classes received a visit from the Road Safety Authority (RSA) in September whereby they were given a presentation on the dangers of the road and staying safe. FIRE BRIGADE VISIT

The Fire brigade visited 3rd class and discussed the importance of smoke detectors, making an escape plan, etc. One fireman even dressed up in his full fire fighting gear to show the boys how quickly they can get ready!
