SPRING CLEAN 2023

Our annual ‘An Taisce’ spring clean kicked off this week with Ms Ronan’s class putting on the high viz bibs and gloves. The class took to the yard and surrounding area to clean up and recycle the litter they found. A tremendous effort by all. Thanks to Ms Ronan, every class will get a chance to lend a hand in keeping our school clean and tidy over the coming weeks so be sure to come back and check out our photos.

SPRING CLEAN 2022

The Friary Boys’ School feature many events throughout the year. Some events are on-going throughout while others are seasonal due to weather and availability of facilities. Our latest seasonal event have been our Spring Clean for 2022. This is organised by our fantastic Green Schools committee led by Ms Ronan. Every class takes turns at picking up litter in our school yards and the surrounding area of our school. This is only one of the huge amount of events our Green Schools Committee do. The litter is divided between General Waste and Recycled materials to ensure we are kind to our environment as possible. Well done to all involved, please keep an eye out for our teams and help them keep the area LITTER FREE!!

SPRING CLEAN 2021

While this school year has been very different for everyone, our Green Schools Committee led by Ms Ronan have still been hard at work figuring how to ensure our annual school Spring Clean can take place. As a result, this years Spring Clean is taking place from this week until we finish up at the end of June, with every class assigned one week and one area to clean. Spring Clean

On 23rd April we took part in An Taisce Spring Clean. Over forty boys from 2nd – 6th class took part. The boys had a great time and did fantastic work. Teachers were overwhelmed at the effort everyone made. The children cleaned up all the litter in the driveway, the car park, and the school yards and the adjoining path. In addition, they also tidied up along the kerbs and swept up any leaves left lying around. All the hard work under the heat of the sun led to the children working up a thirst. Luckily, there were some lovely cool drinks awaiting everyone when the clean – up was over. The Green Flag Committee would like to express huge thanks to all the boys and staff in St. Malachy’s B.N.S. and Louth County Council for their continued support.

Anti – Litter Poster Competition 2015

Boys from 2nd – 6th took part in the school’s Anti – Litter Poster Competition after the Spring Clean. There were some really excellent entries and the judges had a tough decision to make. There was a prize for the winner from each class and one overall winner.

The overall winner was Dennis from Mr Wynne’s 6th class.

Working Towards a Green Flag

For almost a year we have been busy with the quest for our first green flag. All classes have been involved and have participated enthusiastically.

Mr. Martin, Ms. Rocks and the committee would like to acknowledge the support and co-operation of the children and staff.

THOMAS CLARKE MEMORIAL CENTENARY GARDEN

Ms. Ronan and the boys of the Green Schools Committee were invited to the opening of the new Thomas Clarke Memorial Garden opened last week in memory of the 1916 leader and signee of the Proclamation. Check out some of the pictures below.
