The curtain draws on what was another fantastic sports day in the Friary field!! We opened proceedings with the heats of egg & spoon, sack and sprint races as well as our long throw and long jump competition. Everyone took part with the emphasis on participation and fun. After a short break, the finalists took to the track to fight out for gold, silver and bronze in each of the age groups from U’8s to U’13s.

After lunch the Calaroga Cup took place with the Friary and six other schools from around the town running a 5 legged relay around the track which was so precisely laid out by Roger and Mr Paddy Carroll for which we are very thankful. Today, for the first time since 2019, the Friary Boys’ won the Calaroga again. Well done and a big thanks to all the competing schools – Redeemer Boys, Realt na Mara, Scoil Eoin Baiste, Gaelscoil, De La Salle and St Joseph’s for their continued support of this fantastic competition.

As the afternoon drew to a close we saw the events of our interclass relay take place and then our class relays with everyone getting to show off their speed and stamina in front of the onlooking crowd.

A huge thanks to all the boys, parents, staff and our parents association for all their support throughout the day. Without all of those, we could not make this day such a great success.
