On Saturday, our U’13 squad travelled to Stabannon Parnell’s GFC to take on St Mary’s Drogheda in the Corn Bhliain Mhuire Final with throw-in at 12 noon.

Our boys started very well, registering two early goals alongside a number of points. This dominance did not continue, however as a galant St Mary’s fought back to shorten the deficit by half time. The second half turned out to be a completely different game as St Mary’s pushed hard to gain a foothold in the match. Our boys found themselves pinned into our own half at times and needing everyone to put their hands to the pump. Thankfully St Malachy’s Boys did just that, tackling and blocking, hunting and chasing every single ball. Although we were kept to single figure points in the second half and couldn’t get ourselves a goal, we did get some really crucial scores nearing the final minutes of the match. And most importantly, when the final whistle was blown it was St Malachy’s who came out on top with a very tenacious performance.

As a result of this win, these U’13 boys made history in the school becoming the first team to ever clinch the Corn Mhic Ardail and Corn Bhliain Mhuire in one year. A fantastic double not to mention the 7-A-Side tournament which they also won a few weeks previous.

Overall a fantastic year for the school and one which will go down in history for a long time to come.
